Spain – Cami de Ronda (GR92)

8th November to 18th November 2023

I flew to Barcelona and then took quite a pleasant train journey to Llançà on the Costa Brava near the French border. I will have to taxi out to the start point in Portbou in the morning though as there is nothing on the overnight front available there. Then another ten stages down the coast to LLoret del Mar which will be the finish for this segment.
A bit concerned about the longer sections as daylight is limited but it’ll be fun finding out if I have enough or not.
I would love to do the whole GR92 at some point but as with all these things that are spread across different administrative areas, some parts are good and some are not even started never mind finished. However, the first part down the old Cami de Ronda is all done and ready for dem boots.
I am partially following a German couple’s guide but their stages don’t quite fit with me but we’ll see how I get on with their timings. They also feel that it is acceptable to taxi round a portion that they think is boring. So, as a result, the luggage transfer service that they instigated with a Costa Brava taxi firm follows their lead. This means no stopovers on the bit that they didn’t like and a subsequent faff around if you want to complete the whole thing to get to and from the stage start and finish.
They also allowed people to put so called warnings on their site about sections that may be problematic for those of us uncomfortable with heights. This is a double edged sword in my opinion, for I am still suffering hideous dread about those cliff edges to come. I would much prefer to come across terrifying paths along those drops in a way that means I have to deal with them then and there – a pleasant surprise as it were. Not be so wound up about them that I contemplate not even starting.
