Tefia to Betancuria – 20th February 2025

Weather is still twenty degrees ish and windy with a bit of cloud cover whichhelped for the first part of today. The finish, up the mountains to Betancuria, was tough and hot but I made it. Very grateful to have a driver becuase making the bus would have been a big problem.

Leaving Tefia and an arty windmill playing tribute to the past of this region when it was the bread basket of the Canary Islands. What happened? We did.
Do you like my thread of the Gods touching the vane?
Leaving Tefia. This valley looks a little greener. There are thorny shrubs everywhere.
A ‘proper’ windmill. A lá man of La Mancha. Yep Spanish brought them and the bloody goats.
Sort of deja vue. Head towards the lonely mountain and take a turn anticlockwise around it.
Some of those goats mid flight back to their mummy goat as the big bad Anu comes marching along.
The cross? Very spectaular.
Looking back down the valley as I begin the long steep climb out. Tefia to the right behind the central mountain.
Some bird house. Does the bird pull the curtains of a night and settle down to a ep of Concéption Callé
About to start the steep part and a working farm in the valley between the spurs, hunkered down out of the wind.
Near the top and I need a rest to photo a little yellow floor surviving in the heat.
Bloody hell! That was a tough last few hundred metres. Up now.
The locals from way back. Bloody pack of Germans coming at me. I thought that these buggers where tourists just staring at an old pensioner struggling up a steep hill.
Betancuria down in the valley surrouded by hills.
The welcoming committee. I really don’t get it. Despite all the evidence that these animals destroy habitat they still keep them.
There ya go. The ancient capital of the Canaries. Grain processing for the windmills etc. All gone now.

Tough old day but proud to have made it. Not that I have much choice, can hardly call a taxi to the mountain slopes if I’ve had enough!
Onwards big clmbs at the start and finish tomorrow.
