Herm

Herm Harbour to Herm Harbour

Tootled off early at 6.45 because that was the only time I could get a taxi for, then had to hang around the docks until 9.15 for the ferry.
A very nice 4 miles or so around, then a cold drink and capo while waiting for the ferry back. If I hadn’t been bothered by annoying customers it would have been an up there day.

St. Peter Port – south harbour, in the early morning sun.
A little dolphin popping by to say hello.
Approaching Herm.
The ferry. I do like a little ferry. He bangs into the pier, the guy wraps a rope around the steel post under the green flag, pulls tight, a burst of engine and he handbrakes it round until the front is at those steps painted white. We all hop off and he guns it in reverse. Love it. F the health and safety.
First beach – Fisherman’s. Out of season is wonderful. That ferry holds 100 people and I can imagine them all piling off in the summer with their racket and their mess. Today,10 and 4 of those were hikers like me.
Up at the end. Turning into a lovely day with sunshine but only 18 degrees.
The myth of the Herm star in the stone. Just made that up.
Sid the Seal and his first wife have travelled down to say Hi. I always knew that boy was a decent old pinniped.
At Alderney point about to turn south down the east coast. Mouisonniere Beach.
Sark and a much harder prospect for tomorrow.
Shell beach. It all looks very med, but for the bracken.
Very practical. Just send them to a hole in the hedge.
Belvoir beach and that is all the beaches done. Up unto the cliffs now.
Nice cliff path not much of a climb and nice wide trail. South side view.
And round to the West and nearly done. Guernsey over the channel.
Relaxing with the cap and water, waiting on the ferry.
The steps we leave from. This was even less safe. He just puts it front-on to the steps and holds it there with the engine and those peeps get off we hop on. Different step for different tide. Brill.

I didn’t know that the Guernsey air show was on until having my cuppa and hearing the engines screaming as the planes flew over the channel. The Captain heads towards the harbour as usual and then, because it’s the finale and the Red Arrows, just stops in the middle right under them. A selection – hope not too boring.

Liked Herm very much, a lovely little island and an easy 4 mile taster for those that wish a go at the main deal.
