Île aux Moines – 2

Le Lerio – Pointe Nioul Loop – 19th May 2024

The rain stayed away while I tackled the long thin southern end of the island shaped like an uppercase L with a spike coming out of its corner.
The place felt even more like Strangford with the influx of Sunday visitors all seemingly immediately heading to the bike hire shops to clog the lanes and get in may way. But still, things were nice.

The mainland and the little ferry heading over with another load of day trippers.
The first bay past the harbour. When I came back at three it was bunged.
They are building these old-style changing huts.
A lot of overgrown paths like this. Rediscovered that ze pants are not nettle proof.
A lot of the pine trees have been blown down – quite some time ago. These two have survived even with their undercarriage on display.
Just met a walking tour. Too much lime-green lycra and chitter chatter. They are all behind me squeaking and squealing. I was going to wait and let them get ahead a good bit. But then thought I’ll cross the island instead and head clockwise up the other coast. So today is a figure eightish thing not a loop.
How’s that for thatching.
At the eastern most end of the L.
The She God is blessing the cross.
Heading west now.
In the corner of the L. Christ, these all look a bit samey.
Rounding the spike and heading north back towards the harbour.
That’s it up there with all the boats. An hour to run.
The cromlech at Kergonan. Massive thing, must have been the cathedral for the island.
More in the next field with presumably the altar stone.
A lion as your post box. Trés chiqué.

Île aux Moines done. I did like the little bays and the never ending boats tooling about. A gentle walk with very little to climb or descend. I didn’t like the weekend crowds at the harbour and environs but I suppose I need to learn to share.
The weather turned better and that always helps.
A quick breakfast then a scoot to the ferry for the next one and Île d’Arz.
