What a place. Caribbean quality white sand and shallow waters. Lovely inter-island travel and just the right size islands for a day’s or half-day’s trek.
September is minus the families and the, no doubt, mad crowds of kids but is instead filled with the retired and mostly much retired. This is very nice in a way as they are all very polite. No pushing in the queues for this mob. However, they do dodder about a bit and get in the way. Especially in the narrow lanes and on the jetties.
The lost day to the fog was a bit of a bummer and I had to rejig the water-taxies to fit but in the end they sorted me out – albeit – with little notice, as they waited for the tides to give them enough water to get to the quays.
The sad thing is that circumstances have changed and I doubt that I will get to travel for a very considerable time. When I do, I’d hate to think that it will be as those much retired folks who keep going – all praise to them – but count a mile or two as day’s walk.
