Haringvlietplein Stellendam to Brouwers Noordzeestrand – 27th July 2025

A long old trek today but the stops are set as I like them at two hours then an hour and half thereafter. Probably shouldn’t do this as I had a long trip yeterday, but seems a natural section.

Leaving Haringvlietplein Stellendam and another bridge that was up in the air when approached.
Well, it’s a grass stem but why?
A few good miles of tarmac through the woods.
With farmland to one side.
And the sea to the other. Rotterdam in the distance.
That smattering of people marks the first stop and I need it badly. Not doing so good at the minute, just need to get off my feet.
Old Rottedam long gone now.
Love this skinny bit where the sea comes tight to the dunes.

The finish is still a long way away, to the right of that tower.
At last, the beach is at an end.
That tower sits on the Brouwers dam which curves around it to the stop.
The bastard satin caterpillar is about. Tough little git born of a broken home, destinted to have a hard life hated by everyone.
He just loves attacting those damnable skaters.
Right, four hard miles of this and I am done.
The kite surfing centre. I am so glad that the wind has veered northwards and is now behind me for this last haul.
Tomorrow’s peninsular awaits – if I’m up to it.

Actually quite enjoyed today. Didn’t much enjoy the aftermath though. My lower legs have developed large, hard, red stinging blotches centred around where the elastic from my sock was. This is not the first time this has happened, seems to be worst when I do six hours or more. Of all the things that I worried about that would cause me to stop, I’d hate to succumb to that. A shorter day tomorrow.
