Well its been a while. Children – they don’t half f you up sometimes. A very wet and windy day and all of it into my face for most of it. We had everything, a car crash in front of me on the road, the clouds dropping down to cover the mountains and sort of white me out, and when I had reception a never ending series of phone calls about the most inane shit. F but I need to retire.
Hen mountain in the mist but today no climbing, just a partial circumnavigation. The headwaters of the Bann and it is wet and muddy and slippery.Back towards Splega and the jacknifed truck that caused some issues.Squelchy boots but a bit of hard track – bliss. The view down to the Kilbroney river but not for me yet.Hen mountain from the other side. That is not a stream – that is the path.Down this other very dry path across the river and up to that saddle to the left of that peak.OK I might have a bit of trouble coming. At least this one has a bridge across, the last one was hairrrri.Oh dear! Hope this doesn’t get worse. Nearly up the other side.Hurrah! Over the top and down to the green fields. Puffing or what.Miles of the Rostrevor forest now. At least it’s dry – ish. Some local went to a bit of trouble.Rostrevor and down to the sea, the sea, the sparkling beautiful sea. But miles still to go.Indeed, they have been repairing the path …… but it claimed a dedicated worker in the process.A lovely ancient Oak …… straight out of Games of Thones, though it looks a bit like the Grinch as opposed to the Old Gods.
What was nice was that for quite a lot of today I managed to escape the shit that is my life at the minute. And that was despite the cold and the wind and the rain. I did get to touch our ancestors as I like to do, but those poor bastards didn’t manage a lovely hot shower at the end of the day to banish the cold sweat chills.
