Slieve Donard Hotel to Dundrum Bay – 22nd May 2025
A short break for a day or two to give a stressing A leveler some space to panic in peace. The weather yesterday was hot and sunny at 24 so there was hope for today. However, not to be. Nevertheless, a lovely day along the beach into Dundrum village then up around the castle to the finish at the Mourne View Seafood Restaraunt and some great crab claws.
The mourne mountains looking south-west from the beach by the hotel. Glad I decided to be lazy and not climb Slieve Donard. The three miles or so of beach ahead before turning into the bay.The old hotel. It’s been a while since I last was here and it has gotten a little pretenious and overly expensive, in my view.Poor little, or young whale, got chomped.I’m ploughing on into the wind, and the great possibility of rain,These high dunes are 6000 years old, and sheltered our ancestors for their shellfish BBQ.Around the point into Dundrum Bay and Dundrum village. A place of fond memories, when for a week I “borrowed” the keys to my father’s caravan and entertained some ladies. Four in one glorious week. Of course! I’m not proud. It was a different time. He threw me out for a while when he discovered my scheme.Turned around 180 and heading back south-west. The mountains still seem prone to rain. The birdge to take me into the village. The village looking north-east, and the castle on the hill.Up by the castle and the sun seems to be giving it a shot. Just a short hop down the road to a nice lunch.
Sometimes I need a little nature and the wind in my hair for a few hours. It is my way of coping with the shitstorm that keeps blowing my way. Recent bollocks seems to have completely fucked my future for the next couple of years, and I can’t say that I have a lot of those left.
