Houat, Hoedic, ile aux Moines, ile d’Arz, & Le Meniech 16th – 21st May 2024
A strange inverted start today, the lassitude and the nay voices didn’t come upon me as I approached the airport. Instead, as I was doing eighty on the motorway, I saw out of the corner of my eye a snail easing its way onto my bonnet. She stayed in the wind for about ten minutes then disappeared over the side again. How did she get on? And more importantly how was she going to get off? I could just imagine her tentatively reaching out with her foot to the tarmac flashing by and the slightest touch flinging her at eighty into the nearest woods – hopefully. Cheered me up, no end.
A whole day getting to the start with this one, especially tedious once in France where I’ve had to forego the excellent trains and hire a car in order to make the overnight and the morning ferry.
Belle-île-en-mer (GR340) 17th March 2024 – 23rd March 2024
A lot of travel with this trip and I wasn’t feeling it this morning. A lot of the nay nay stuff in my head, nearly causing me to turn back a few times. Of course, the lack of pubic transport and nothing arranged with taxis to take me to and fro on the island added a modicum of uncertainty spice. Then, having to fight my own nature and a blinding headache topped it with a layer of misery.
I managed not to forget my laptop this time but spent an awful lot of time in the fast track queue having my bags swabbed etc. I blame the aromatic stickiness of that café I was in yesterday morning as I can still smell the grease oozing out from the soft cover as I type this.
A flight to Nantes with an overnight then a train and bus to the ferry port at Quiberon and hopefully, a pick-up at the other end. The return will also take an extra day but I think it will be worth it to see this place.
